Sanitation and Food Production Team Member

This role is on the front-line of the production team who assists in the processing and packaging of meat products as well as the leader of sanitation in production, ensuring safety and USDA health standards are met throughout all steps of the manufacturing process. Shift schedule is from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the production facility, located on the east side of Traverse City.

 

Core Responsibilities
  • Ensures facility is fully-operational with all utilities and production equipment functioning properly, while remaining in compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Develops, maintains, monitors, and communicates a Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure for production
  • Ensures the plant has been properly sanitized and will pass USDA inspection at start-up of each production day
  • Communicates potential and actual food safety issues to key personnel to initiate the corrective action process
  • Leads and assists in production duties including but not limited to packaging, shipping, and receiving
  • Directs and enforces safety and sanitation regulations
  • Refers to production schedule to determine the amount and type of meat or poultry to  be processed
  • Calibrates food processing machines to ensure they are correct for each processing procedure
  • Packages, prices, and dates meat products per established guidelines including, type, date of expiration, and weight
  • Cleans and sanitizes department including equipment and work areas in accordance with USDA regulations and organizational guidelines
  • Performs the proper inspections to meet HACCP regulations
  • Promptly informs supervisor(s) of any low stock or needs of department
  • Receives, verifies, and stores production deliveries
  • Follows safe food handling and personal hygiene practices
  • Inspects packed meat products for any conformity problems to determine if products should be isolated or discarded

 

Key Working Relationships
  • Reports directly to the owner of Wilson’s Meats, LLC
  • Works directly with production team members

 

Qualifications
  • Experience in meat production and processing preferred
  • Experience handling knives and other cutting equipment
  • Knowledge of USDA, HACCP, Food Safety regulations, and OSHA Standards is preferred
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Proficient cleaning abilities to meat sanitation and visual standards

 

Physical Requirements

  • The employee is required to stand, and is also required  to walk, reach, lift, bend, and kneel
  • The employee is required to push, pull and lift items weighing 50 pounds or less
  • Must possess manual dexterity and auditory and visual skills

 

Working Conditions
  • Ability to work in a wet and refrigerated area; department is approximately 34* F with freezer area temperature 0* F
  • Must work weekends, evenings, early mornings, and holidays as scheduled and needed

Core Responsibilities

A highly-regarded position at Maxbauer, you will be responsible for the focus on delivering a memorable customer experience including but not limited to:

  • Puts the customers first and providers excellent service
  • Becomes knowledgeable about store products and is able to discuss detailed product information with customers
  • Assists with the daily stocking of full-service and self-serve meat counters, and assists opening and/or closing procedures based on scheduled shift
  • Helping customers at full-service or full-self-serve registers
  • Maintains a clean sales floor that is presentable to customers
  • Completes tasks assigned by Store Manager

Working hours are 9:00 am – 6:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday. You must be available to work during these times.

 

Key Working Relationships
  • Reports directly to the store manager
  • Works directly with various team members of production and kitchen staff

 

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in meat or grocery environment preferred
  • Experience with customer service
  • Able to interact with customers and must have a cheerful disposition
  • Knowledge of food, recipes, and basic cooking
  • Able to multitask in a fast-paced and customer focused environment while maintaining safety
  • Must work weekends, evenings, early mornings, and holidays as scheduled and needed
